Position description

The Gavin Herbert Eye Institute at the UC Irvine School of Medicine, Department of Ophthalmology is accepting applications in the Specialist series.

Applications are sought from candidates with a PhD or MD. The Specialist will spend approximately 20% of their time in clinical pursuits under the direct supervision of a licensed member of the Department of Ophthalmology. The other 80 % of the Specialist's time is spent in the Ophthalmology laboratory at the UCI Medical Center in Orange, CA under the supervision of the Retina director.

This is an ongoing recruitment. Positions are dependent on extramural funding.

Rank and salary will be determined based on qualifications and experience.

Qualifications
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

Applicants must possess an M.D., or Ph.D. in the field of Ophthalmology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, or equivalent.

Junior Specialist - Appointees to the Junior rank should possess a bachelor's degree (or equivalent degree) or equivalent research experience.

Assistant Specialist - Appointees to the Assistant rank should possess a master's degree (or equivalent degree), or five years of experience demonstrating expertise in the relevant specialization.

Associate Specialist - Appointees to the Associate rank should possess a master's degree (or equivalent degree) or five to ten years of experience demonstrating expertise in the relevant specialization.

Specialist (Full Rank) - Appointees to the Full rank should possess a terminal degree (or equivalent degree) or ten or more years of experience demonstrating expertise in the relevant specialization
