Job Summary

The research portfolio of the Department of Surgery at ZSFG is extensive with approximately $10M in federal, state and industry funding, including innovative clinical trials focused on General Surgery, Trauma, and Acute Care Surgery. Our research groups work in our state of the art teaching and research facilities that houses more 800 UCSF faculty, staff and trainees.

The grant program manager will be responsible for managing functional and operational activities for division's research program including research administration, coordination of grant submissions, drafting budgets and monitoring grant spending, managing communications and outreach for funding announcements and clinical trials, overseeing clinical trials and enrollment, developing and organizing research focused events, conferences, and other public forums related to the research mission.

This position will work under the direction of the Chief of Surgery at ZSFG and will help implement key research initiatives, and help obtain grant funding to grow the overall research footprint of the division. This position will work closely with the division's Administrative Director on staffing and to support the research infrastructure.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $84,400 - $133,800 (Annual Rate).

Department Description

The UCSF Department of Surgery at Zuckerberg San Francisco General (ZSFG) provides surgical services for the benefit of our patients and professional colleagues twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. Our Trauma Center excels in the care of patients with injuries, burns, complex wounds, surgical infections and patients requiring surgical critical care. Currently, ZSFG is the only Level 1 trauma center serving the city of San
Francisco. The surgical faculty at ZSFG are dedicated to providing the highest quality of care to our patients, education of our students and residents, and advancement of scientific knowledge.

Required Qualifications


  • Advanced degree in a related area and/ or equivalent experience/ training
  • 3+ years related experience
  • Academic background and experience in selected area of research preferred.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong ability to think creatively and independently on concepts requiring advanced
  • analytical skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse groups to achieve results.
  • Strong ability to work collaboratively with internal and external peers and managers.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Doctorate in related area and/or equivalent experience training preferred
  • Experience with research administration, grant submissions and budgets
  • Experience with managing clinical trials
