We are seeking a Nurse Practitioner to work within the Division of Pediatric Hematology, Department of Pediatrics, to provide comprehensive, age appropriate, and episodic care to patients as a member of a multidisciplinary health care team. The Nurse Practitioner will practice within the guidelines of the unit department and institution, and in accordance with the Nurse Practitioner Written agreement required and approved by the State of Maryland. The Nurse Practitioner will be granted Staff Privileges by the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. These privileges are reviewed annually by the University and the Hospital. The Nurse Practitioner will coordinate and participate in pediatric hematology clinics and assist with thrombosis and anticoagulation patients. The Nurse Practitioner will coordinate scheduling of and conduct comprehensive and/or episodic health assessments of patients with real, potential, acute, and/or chronic health problems. They will perform history and physical examination as it relates to chief complaints. Will establish medical diagnoses for a select short term and chronic treatments and treatment-related problems, including monitoring of patients with thromboses and receiving anticoagulation therapy, ordering and interpreting laboratory tests, prescribing medications, and referring patients to appropriate licensed physicians or health care providers. The Nurse Practitioner will work independently with supervision and medical direction by physicians within the Division of Pediatric Hematology, but under the direct supervision of the Division Chief and the Director of the Thrombosis/Anticoagulation Service. The Nurse Practitioner will discriminate between normal and abnormal findings in the history and physical, identify differential diagnosis, assess severity of illness and establish plans for an evaluation. Will record and document assessment data necessary to maintain coordination and expedite required services, including maintenance of patient flow sheets and charts and monitoring of laboratory values to assess response to therapy. The Nurse Practitioner will be expected to maintain long-term relationships with patients with chronic illnesses, particularly those with thromboses and hemophilia, to establish a liaison and therapeutic relationship that will assist with long-term management of patients.
