We fulfill our mission through counseling, education, and advocacy, primarily in the greater Minneapolis and St. Paul area. The Family Partnership was founded in 1878 as the Minneapolis Humane Society to protect and serve children that were being abused or exploited. Along with a few name changes, our work has continually transformed to anticipate and address the evolving needs of families and individuals, many of whom are the most vulnerable in our community.

Wages and Benefits

Schedule

The Family Partnership understands the various needs of life outside of work. The schedule for this position is flexible and allows for a hybrid of working in the community/office and working from home. This position requires some travel in the community.

A Typical Day in the Life...

A typical day as The Family Partnership's Mobility Mentor / PSOP Family Service Worker includes providing in-home or virtual coaching, education, and parenting support to facilitate healthy child development, positive communication in the family, and healthier and supportive family relationships.

Responsibilities will include the following:

• Using the Bridge to Self-Sufficiency as a tool to help PFF participants in assessing their overall financial stability and well-being, including their educational attainment, employment history, household income, debt/savings, and personal and family stability.
• Coaching PFF participants around goal setting, using the Bridge as a tool for setting specific goals to advance on one or more pillars of the Bridge.
• Providing regular 1:1 coaching and individual/group education (i.e., budgeting, financial literacy, tenant rights and responsibilities, etc.) to support participants in completing high school/attaining a GED, and in pursuing post-secondary educational goals, as well as employment and other economic mobility goals.
• Developing partnerships with mentoring and educational organizations (i.e., post-secondary education such as trade schools, community colleges, and universities/colleges).
• Developing partnerships with employment services providers and with prospective employers to facilitate the placement of participants into the formal employment sector of the economy.
• Helping families in identifying their strengths and weaknesses, while working on developing goals and positive changes that reduce the risk of out-of-home placement or child protection involvement.
• Intervening in crisis situations to provide a safe environment for families.
• Developing partnerships with community services providers to arrange for support services, such as childcare, homemaker service, prenatal care, substance abuse treatment, job training, counseling, or parenting classes to prevent more serious problems from developing.

Who You Are

• You have a bachelor's degree in early childhood education, social work, human services, or a related field (preferred).
• You have a minimum of two years' experience providing services in education/employment coaching and financial/economic empowerment with low-income individuals.
• You have experience working with parents who are low-income, homeless/precariously housed, and disenfranchised individuals.
• You have experience working with and an understanding of low-income communities, communities of color, LGBTQ individuals and families, and other oppressed and/or vulnerable populations.
• You have knowledge of coaching-based approaches, and other approaches such as case management.
• You have knowledge of financial literacy and economic empowerment tools, such as Four Cornerstones of Financial Literacy.
• You are knowledgeable about best practices in working with parents with cognitive disabilities.
• You can work effectively with parents and families in high poverty, high adversity environments.
• You can provide advocacy for clients so that they are able to utilize services equitably.
• You have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• You can provide in-home or virtual parent education and coaching services.
• You can travel to clients' homes, schools, meetings with community partners, and various other locations, and you have access to reliable transportation.
• You are capable of tracking and maintaining data necessary for program monitoring and evaluation.
• You can perform assessments needed to conduct appropriate intervention and referrals.
• You must have a valid driver's license, access to reliable transportation, and the ability to meet TFP's driving record requirements. Please note that if your license was not issued in the state of Minnesota, you have 60 days after becoming a Minnesota resident in which to apply for your Minnesota driver's license or permit.
