Job Description

This position will provide expert consultation and educational services on ethical matters within the MU Health Care System and MU School of Medicine. Reporting to the Director of the MU Center for Health Ethics, this role supports the Ethics Committee and Consultation Service for MU Health Care System.

Key Responsibilities:
* Conduct ethics consultations independently, addressing ethical concerns raised by patients, families, faculty, staff, and learners.
* Participate actively in the educational mission of the healthcare system, providing training on ethical issues to various stakeholders.
* Assist in developing and updating institutional policies to ensure compliance with ethical standards, state, and federal regulations.
* Monitor and evaluate the quality and impact of ethics consultations.
* Collaborate with Ethics Consultation Service leadership to meet compliance requirements.
* Participate in teaching a graduate course within the MU School of Medicine.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
* Education: Master's or doctoral degree in ethics, bioethics, philosophy, or related fields (PhD, JD, MSN, or MS with clinical ethics experience).
* Experience: Minimum of 3 years in clinical settings, with experience in clinical ethics consultation.

Candidates will be evaluated on:

* Skills: Proficiency in ethics consultation methodologies, documentation, and use of electronic medical records (e.g. Cerner).
* Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, adept at collaborating across multidisciplinary teams.
* Teaching: Strong teaching abilities, capable of educating individuals and groups on ethical issues.
* Interpersonal: Demonstrates sensitivity and professionalism in interactions with patients, families, and healthcare professionals
* PhD (or other terminal degree)
* Experience leading an Ethics Consultation Service within a multi-hospital system.
* Expertise in handling complex ethics cases across all age groups.
* Postgraduate education in ethics or national certification in Healthcare Ethics Consulting (HEC-C) preferred.
* Familiarity with quality metrics and outcomes related to ethics consultations.
* Proficiency in using various software for word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and presentations.
* Experience in public speaking and conducting continuing education programs (CME/CNE)
* Experience in acute care hospitals.
