ERG is seeking an experienced safety specialist to provide full-time support to health and safety efforts. This team is supporting growing energetics manufacturing and research and development groups. The position will be hybrid at a federal site in Indian Head, Maryland, in the Washington, DC metro area. Indian Head is approximately 30 miles from Washington, DC, 25 miles from Alexandria, VA, and 60 miles from Fredericksburg, VA. Alternative work schedules may be considered.

Job Description:
  • Support/manage safety and occupational health programs
  • Support/participate in program compliance audits by outside organizations
  • Prepare or review standard operating procedures
  • Serve as a key safety reviewer for process manufacturing start-up and approval
  • Perform walkthroughs and safety and health inspections of manufacturing areas, storage facilities, test ranges, laboratories, and administrative spaces; document any recommendations
  • Perform follow-up inspections to close out recommendations, specifically on hazard abatement to close out deficiencies in accordance with 29 CFR 1960
  • Track the status of open actions using databases or spreadsheets
  • Interact with process owners and design teams
  • Participate in hazard analyses and process start-up reviews
  • Review, update, and present training on safety and occupational health topics
  • Support mishap and incident investigations
  • Maintain compliance with Federal, Navy, and local policies
Qualifications and Skills:
  • Safety Specialists should have a minimum of 2 years of safety and occupational health experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Health and Safety, or related engineering or science field is preferred, but equivalent work experience will be considered in lieu of a degree
  • Strong understanding of 29 CFR 1910
  • Engineers should have experience in reviewing technical data packages and engineering drawings; conducting design reviews with respect to ADA, NFPA, ASHRAE, and/or ANSI compliance; and providing input for hazard identification and mitigation
  • A General Industry Certification (e.g., Certified Industrial Hygienist, Certified Safety Professional, Associate Safety Professional) is preferred but not required
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience with explosives safety is preferred but not required
  • Must currently hold or be able to obtain a Department of Defense Secret-level security clearance; Must be a U.S. citizen as this position is not eligible for Limited Access Authorizations
