Sr Clinical Therapist

Summary:

Provides clinical and crisis intervention services to children and youth who have behavioral health disorders and their families. Treatment is typically provided in the clients* homes and community along with care coordination with schools physicians and other providers. Clinicians may be assigned to specialty population cases including trauma & complicated grief autism spectrum disorders co-occurring disorders eating disorders & other complex medical needs and early childhood based on training and experience.

Responsibilities:

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Demonstrates understanding of child and adolescent development.

Provides intensive clinical and crisis intervention services to children at imminent risk of hospitalization or higher levels of care. Includes but is not limited to:

Intake assessments and treatment plans in accordance with standards of practice.

Individual psychotherapy family therapy group therapy and psycho-education.

Face-to-face contact with children and their families in their own homes or communities as prescribed in the individual Treatment Plan typically during after-school and evening hours.

Care coordination through meetings telephone conversations and correspondence.

Emergency evaluations and crisis intervention services to children and adolescents at imminent risk of psychiatric hospitalization designed to stabilize client within the home or community for the purpose of deterring hospitalization within a timely manner.

On-call coverage as assigned (2-3 weeks/year) responding by phone to on-call requests within 10 minutes of receiving call and supporting intake assessments for next-day appointments.

Liaison with Bradley Hospital and Butler Hospital programs to coordinate admission and discharge of clients and continuity of care.

Provides general outpatient services as requested including individual family and group therapy using best practice treatment strategies effective for the diagnostic needs of children.

Provides psycho-educational services to children and their families based on modality frequency participant and location specifications prescribed in the Treatment Plan. Services will include provision of information regarding the clients* specific behavior disorders social/emotional development mental illness substance abuse effective parenting behavior management and etc.

Increases knowledge of diagnostic and treatment strategies that are considered evidence-based strategies.

Is alert and responsive to client issues and behaviors. Modifies treatment planning to meet client needs and changes in situation. Documents with client if possible treatment implementation and related issues in progress notes and/or treatment plan review documents.

Completes assessments treatment plans progress notes and discharge summaries according to clinical standards and required timelines.

Identifies family needs that can be supported through other community-based resources maintaining familiarity with the eligibility requirements of those resources and methods of referral.

Identifies indicators of abuse and neglect.

Conducts risk assessments for potential client harm to self or others.

Maintains knowledge of psychiatric medications and works with prescribing professionals to assess and address the needs of clients assisting them in adhering to medication protocols and obtaining refills.

Obtains authorizations from insurance companies for services following established criteria and timelines defined in the insurance protocols.

Performs case presentations at clinical treatment meetings synthesizing client needs response to treatment and concerns and integrating team input into clinical work.

Maintains good work habits arriving on time as scheduled.

Attends meetings and trainings on time and actively participates in discussions.

Prepares for and attends supervision appointments as scheduled and follows through on assignments and instructions from supervisor.

Works cooperatively with other team members supporting each other*s needs.

Maintains a minimum of 23 hours productivity per week for billable services which will include late afternoon and evening hours when children are not in school.

Mentors student interns as assigned.

Mentors new clinicians and case managers working as agreed upon with supervisor.

Other duties and responsibilities as assigned or needed.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Master*s Degree in social work marriage/family counseling rehabilitation counseling mental health counseling or a related mental health field.
Working towards clinical licensing.
Experience working with children who have behavioral health disorders and their families using best practice treatment protocols.
When assigned to a specialty population training or experience in that field (e.g. trauma & complicated grief autism spectrum disorders co-occurring disorders eating disorders & other complex medical conditions and early childhood)
Flexible schedule that enables evening and weekend hours.
Valid driver*s license.
Insured automobile and required liability insurance.
Knowledge of community resources

JOB KNOWLEDGE SKILL AND ABILITY:
Knowledge of child and adolescent neuro-typical development and of family systems issues.
Ability to communicate effectively both in writing and verbally with clients family members supervisor other agency staff community professionals and other members of the community.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from professionals managers family and the general public.
Ability to successfully complete all required training and certifications.
Oral and written communication skills including speech grammar spelling and legibility are at sufficient level to ensure effective and appropriate communication.
Ability to add subtract multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers common fractions and decimals either manually or by use of a calculator.
Ability to navigate electronic health record and type in narrative information.
