Assistant Clinical Mgr

Part-time 24 hours per week 3:00 pm - 11:30 pm with every other weekend . This Assistant Manager's position will report to the Director and will work in a management capacity as well as hands on patient care. This is a very unique opportunity to gain valuable skills in management while still loving what you do insofar as patient care.

Summary:

The Assistant Clinical Manager for Behavioral Health has 24-hour responsibility to ensure safe care and delivery of patients across the division and to enhance patient flow. The Assistant Clinical Manager will work in collaboration with the unit Clinical Manager and Advanced Practice Manager for Behavioral Health to improve patient flow maintain safe practices help to reduce unit acuity provide real-time supervision and education to members of the clinical team directs nursing care and coordinates resources and performs administrative activities as assigned. The incumbent will report to the Director of Psychiatric Nursing Services and will work closely with the ancillary leadership.

Patient Focus Core Behaviors:

The Assistant Clinical Manager collaborates and supports the health care team in the delivery of quality evidence-based patient-focused care as evidenced by:

  1. Providing/directing nursing care throughout the life span with consideration of the aging process developmental and cultural patterns in each step of the nursing process.
  2. Identifying and allocating environmental technical personnel resources needed to meet the need of patients families and colleagues.
  3. Participation in quality assessment and improvement programs to evaluate effectiveness of care delivered.
  4. Enhancement of unit behaviors through encouragement of education implementation of new concepts and technology.
  5. Providing leadership in the development of policies procedures standards of care and critical paths to promote positive patient outcomes.
  6. Assess unit acuity and provide in-time support to units across the division.
  7. Support patient flow and capacity initiatives across the division to include ensuring the timely admission and discharge of patients and supporting coordination of care efforts.
  8. Lead and assist with multidisciplinary team rounding.
  9. Support unit staff to decompress acuity de-escalate agitated patients safely manage restraint initiatives.

  3. Assist in the development of capital and operational budgets defined for the unit.
  4. Monitoring staff compliance to schedule through weekly payroll.

The Assistant Clinical Manager is responsible to contribute to the organizational plan for development of short and long-term goals as evidenced by:

  1. Providing unit management coverage in collaboration with the Clinical Manager.
  2. Directing and supervising unit staff.
  3. Identify and resolve nursing care conflict and problems related to the unit.
  4. Communicating the status of unit operations activities and issues to the Clinical Manager Advanced Practice Manager and/or Director.
  5. Participating in unit management meetings and recommending fiscal/patient care objectives standards and goals.
  6. Chairing unit staff meetings in collaboration with the Clinical Manager.
  7. Collaboration with nursing faculty to facilitate students to meet educational needs.
  8. Participation in the formation of policy procedures standards.
  9. Participation on organizational committees.
  10. Compliance to TJC standards.

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:

The administrative ability to oversee departmental activities. Ensure that area policies and procedures are maintained and to supervise subordinate staff.

A thorough knowledge of nursing practices within assigned clinical area.

Ability to interpret and respond to acute patient-care needs.

QUALIFICATIONS-EDUCATION:

Baccalaureate in Nursing; Masters preferred (Nursing or related Health Care field acceptable).

Must have current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island.

BLS

Strong leadership skills

QUALIFICATIONS-EXPERIENCE:

Minimum of 3 years relevant experience with demonstrated clinical and leadership skills.

SUPERVISION:

Work in collaboration with unit leadership to schedule train assign work participate in the evaluation of and when necessary recommend discipline and discharge of subordinate personnel when appropriate.
