JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS: The Learning Factory, the maker space for the College of Engineering, has a part-time opening for a Learning Factory Assistant Supervisor. We support both curricular and extra-curricular activities for hundreds of students, faculty, and staff each semester. This individual will provide supervision and conduct training in the facility, including some evening hours. Responsibilities include:
Teaching and training are primary aspects of this position. This includes educating Learning Factory users (i.e., TAs, students, faculty, and staff) on the safe and appropriate usage of a wide variety of equipment. As we transition into a new best-in-class facility, the individual will assist in the development of new technical and professional training, including safety protocols and skills development for users and TAs. The Learning Factory supports both in-class and extra-curricular activities. We have several initiatives that promote hands-on learning and associated skills. The individual in this position will support both the development of these activities and the diverse students that participate in them. They are expected to follow guidelines to accomplish goals within the available budget. Experience in a shop and/or manufacturing environment is essential, with a particular emphasis on wood and metal (machine) shops. Specialization in other areas such as rapid prototyping, welding, additive manufacturing, and electronics, is also valuable. Associate's degree or higher in a technical program plus two years of related experience, or equal education and experience, is preferred. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are welcome. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills are also required. This is 100% on-site hourly position. The individual is expected to work 2-3 days/week, with the possibility of additional hours during peak usage periods.
