JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Penn State is currently seeking a top frontline fundraiser in the role of Medical Fundraiser to engage alumni and friends as partners in supporting Penn State Health and the College of Medicine (PSH/COM). As a member of the Division of Development and Alumni Relations (DDAR), you can play an integral role in Penn State's future and contribute to one of the most successful fundraising and alumni relations operations in the country.

Reporting to the Executive Director of Development for Penn State Health and the College of Medicine and working closely with the campus' leadership, as well as other partners and central development offices, this Director of Major Gifts will:

  • Supervise embedded directors for the Corporate Engagement Center and Foundation Relations and provide strategy for the growth of corporate and foundation fundraising while maintaining a personal portfolio of corporations, foundations and individual donors as they relate to Penn State Health and the Penn State College of Medicine;
  • Articulate Penn State's needs, ambitions, and values, including diversity, equity, and inclusion, through excellent informal and formal communications, including email, phone, in-person or virtual meetings and submission of LOIs and proposals;
  • Develop annual goals, plans, and budgets for a comprehensive, strategy-driven fundraising program;
  • Prepare briefing materials, coordinate meetings (virtual or in-person) between potential donors/partners and PSH/COM leadership, deans, department heads, principal investigators, faculty, and development colleagues;
  • Work closely and proactively with the Penn State College of Medicine Office of Research Affairs
  • Proactively employ databases and coordinate with Prospect Research and Analytics to identify emerging funders and develop funding strategies for existing partners and maintain a robust prospect pool aligned with University priorities;
  • Understand sponsored research and philanthropic grant policies, procedures and best practices and ensure compliance with approved practices for online portal submission and review of terms and conditions;
  • Prepare and deliver information on specific funding opportunities and program interests;
  • Serve as an ambassador for PSH/COM and its priorities and values.

This position requires a bachelor's degree or higher plus six years of work-related experience. Preference will be given to an individual with management experience. The successful candidate will also have:

  • Track record of success in securing corporate, foundation, and individual support and meeting fundraising goals;
  • Dedication to and understanding of the skills required to build relationships with diverse communities;
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion;
  • Demonstrated ability to build internal and external relationships and work collaboratively with a wide range of academic medicine, healthcare, university and external representatives to effectively complete complex work assignments, review progress, and evaluate results;
  • A passion for higher education and healthcare as well as an understanding of or willingness to learn about and ability to operate large complex institutions;
  • Exemplary interpersonal and communication skills;
  • A Commitment to professional development, learning, collaboration, and being mentored;
  • Proven ability to self-motivate and work independently and as part of a team.

Operation of a motor vehicle as part of the position's duties and a valid driver's license are required. Successful completion of a motor vehicle records check, in addition to standard background checks, is also required, as well as the following: PA State Police Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance Form, and Federal (FBI) Fingerprint Criminal Background Check.

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades is:

$86,300.00 - $129,500.00
