The Department of Pediatrics at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School is seeking a Physician-Scientist to join the Division of Child Neurology and Neurodevelopmental Disabilities at the Assistant to Associate Professor level.

Competitive candidates will have significant evidence of past research training and accomplishments with a career goal in academic translational medicine. The candidate will be provided with research engagement, protected time, financial support, training, and mentoring to become competitive to receive support of the KL2 institutional Physician Scientist Award from the Clinical and Translational Science Awards Program. This program provides candidates with up to 75% effort to perform basic and/or translational research for mentored research career development in a translational research laboratory. The Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences program, located on both the Busch Science Campus in Piscataway, and New Brunswick, provides numerous research laboratory opportunities that focus on neurodevelopmental disorders including animal models and human autism neural stem cells; traumatic brain injury; stress and depressive disorders; and epilepsy, among others. Qualified candidates must be board certified/board eligible in Neurology with special qualifications in Child Neurology.

The successful candidate will join 6 additional faculty members and will provide both inpatient and outpatient care. The faculty currently supports an active Level 4 Epilepsy center, concussion program and the only pediatric multiple sclerosis program in the state of New Jersey.

The Department of Pediatrics is composed of 115 full-time and more than 200 volunteer faculty members, organized into 18 divisions covering all of the pediatric subspecialties in conjunction with four key surgical services. In addition, our centers of excellence include The Boggs Center on Developmental Disabilities, Child Health Sciences, and the Institute for the Study of Child Development. The Division of Hematology and Oncology is located in the Rutgers Cancer Institute of NJ, the only NCI designated cancer center in the state of New Jersey. Adjacent is the PSE&G Children's Specialized Hospital, which is one of the country's largest inpatient acute rehabilitation facilities for children. The department is undergoing a renaissance following the recent integration of the medical school with Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, and the merger of two major health systems to form RWJ Barnabas. The department has already recruited 43 new faculty members with plans for hiring additional faculty, allowing us to expand our research and clinical programs and provide improved care to our patients. Our educational mission is focused on the development of the next generation of multi-talented physicians who will become leaders in education, research and patient care. Our ACGME-accredited training programs continue to thrive and expand. We have an outstanding pediatric residency and fellowship training programs.

The inpatient clinical services are provided at the Bristol-Myers Squibb Children's Hospital of the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, NJ a five-time Magnet recipient recognized as "One of America's Best Children's Hospitals" by U.S. News and World Report for the sixth time. This is a 105-bed acute care hospital located on the only pediatric academic health campus in New Jersey. The outpatient services are located in the Rutgers Child Health Institute of NJ, a state of the art 5-story facility that includes a Pediatric CRC and Pediatric subspecialty offices. Our New Brunswick-based clinical programs have achieved Accredited Status for Ambulatory Health Care by the Joint Commission, one of only a small number of academic ambulatory practices to receive this status.

As the State's premier institution, there are many opportunities to collaborate across campuses with all the health professional schools and biomedical science school at the Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences. Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences' strategic plan includes neuroscience as a signature program with the establishment of the Brain Health Institute, which houses two of the faculty members. The program also educates medical students, pediatric residents, child psychiatry fellows, and adult neurology residents.
