Description

First Merchants Bank is seeking an External Reporting Manager to join our team! This position will manage and assist with all activities related to public filings (10-K, 8-K, 10-Q and associated XBRL) and regulatory reporting to ensure compliance with applicable Security and Exchange Commission (SEC) rules and regulations and United States Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

As part of this role you will:



  1. Assist with the management of filing all SEC forms (10-K, 8-K, 10-Q, and associated XBRL) under the direction of the Senior Manager, External Reporting, and ensure compliance with SEC rules and regulations, and US GAAP:


    1. Prepare and review detailed documentation supporting related disclosures for SEC filings to ensure completeness and accuracy.
    2. Lead the data collection, aggregation, validation, and greenhouse gas (GHG) accounting calculation.
    3. Collaborate with the internal team to build a sound internal control structure over the completeness and accuracy of the GHG accounting calculation.


  2. Maintain up to date technical knowledge and assist with the review, impact analysis, and implementation of new and upcoming accounting guidance, including disclosure requirements, issues by the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) and SEC.
  3. Assist with the external auditor process.
  4. Work with the Controller and the accounting team to develop and maintain efficient processes and communication during the period end close and audit.
  5. Analyze peer company financial filings for best practice incorporation into company financial reporting.


The following would be a plus:



  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field OR associate degree/two (2) years of college + two (2) years of related work/military experience OR four (4) years of related work/military experience (plus any additional required experience listed below).
  • A minimum of five (5) years of SEC reporting experience.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license.


Preferred Requirements:



  • Strong understanding of financial reporting under US GAAP.
  • Strong research skills.
