Job Overview

As one of the oldest medical schools in the country, the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine (COM) has a reputation for training best-in-class health care professionals and developing cutting-edge procedures and research that improves the health and clinical care of patients. In partnership with the UC Health academic healthcare system and Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, College of Medicine's faculty are transforming the world of medicine every day.

A full-time Faculty position is available in the Department of Surgery at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. The Department is seeking a skilled and self-motivated researcher with interest and experience in investigating the impacts of polytrauma and critical illness on patient outcomes by determining the physiologic, hematologic, and inflammatory effects of resuscitation, transportation, and transfusion after traumatic injury utilizing basic, translational, and clinical research platforms. This basic science and translational researcher will interact regularly with the Cincinnati Research in Trauma (CRIT) team. This position requires a leadership role in the development, design, conduct and the analysis of basic and translational research platforms. The faculty member will also assist and mentor surgical faculty and trainees in related research grant proposals and manuscript preparation. Academic rank and tenure track eligibility to be determined by experience and expectations for extramural funding.

Essential Functions

Duties will include responsibilities for research and teaching. The successful Trauma Basic Science Researcher will:



  • Independently develop, prioritize and manage multiple injury, transfusion, and coagulation research programs.
  • Perform statistical analyses and teach analysis to a non-technical audience of senior management, residents and junior faculty.
  • Participate in grant proposal and manuscript preparation.
  • Eventually obtain extramural funding to support own efforts within 5 years.

Required Education

PhD in applicable basic science research field.

Required Experience

  • Minimum of three-to-five years of work experience in injury or resuscitation related research.
  • Prior experience in writing/submitting grants.
  • Demonstrated expertise in relevant research design methods.
