Position Description: |
The University of Iowa, School of Social Work seeks dynamic candidates for multiple tenure-track assistant professor positions to join our growing programs, beginning on August 20, 2025. Assistant professors hold 9-month academic year appointments. Candidates should bring a strong research agenda, with demonstrated potential for scholarly contributions and for generating external funding. The University of Iowa is a member of the Association of American Universities and a Carnegie Foundation designated RU/VH University with an enrollment of 32,000 undergraduate and graduate students. UI is known for its balanced commitment to the arts, sciences, and humanities. It is home to one of the nation's largest academic medical centers and the pioneering Iowa Writers' Workshop. The University is located in the casual yet cosmopolitan environment of Iowa City, widely recognized as one of the country's most livable communities. The School of Social Work offers BA, MSW, and PhD programs at the main campus in Iowa City, and distance education MSW programs around the state of Iowa (Des Moines, Sioux City and an online program). We are growing our programs at all levels. The School is also home to the National Resource Center for Family Centered Practice and the Iowa Consortium for Substance Use Research and Evaluation. Current areas of faculty scholarship include aging; child, family, neighborhood, and community well-being; mental and behavioral health; and family violence. - Sustain an active program of scholarship as evidenced by peer reviewed publications and conference presentations
- Pursue external funding to support a focused program of research
- Teach and mentor students at the undergraduate and graduate levels
- Provide service in support of the School's and University's mission

Education Requirement: |
- PhD in social work or a closely related discipline at time of appointment.
- Master's degree in Social Work and two years of post-MSW social work practice experience which fulfills CSWE requirements for teaching social work practice courses.

Required Qualifications: |
- Evidence of a strong research agenda, including scholarly publications in refereed journals.
- Potential for securing external research funding.
- Potential for teaching across social work educational program levels (BASW, MSW and PhD) in the classroom and on-line.
- Experience promoting an inclusive culture in the workforce and academic environment.
