Job Summary

The Temporary Government Affairs Communications Associate will support the professional team in the execution of strategies that will help tell the story of the impact of our preeminent research areas and researchers. Will host visitors and provide a high-quality warm experience, per our Docent manual, ensuring that the visitor learns about FIU research, engages with student talent and leave inspired.

Duties may include:

- Serve as the primary host and office greeter.

- Responsible for "front of house" management, including answering main phone lines and daily check of voicemail.

- Assist in concierge tasks, ranging from greeting guests to restocking supplies, including the fridge and other rotunda elements.

- Serve as a hospitality guide.

- Serve as the primary guide for the team, ensuring that planned, and unexpected visitors receive a high-quality, engaged and interactive experience.

- Assist in incorporating interactive elements and capturing visits for social media. - For planned visits, responsible for preparing pre-visit messages, coordinating the reservation of office space, development of welcome signs and research on key visitors.

- Responsible for carrying out post visit follow-through, including registering of guests in CRM, etc.

- Assist with training and scheduling of volunteer docents, in particular our Hamilton Scholars.

- Support the curation of updates to interactive, electronic elements such as welcome monitors, upload of videos, and preparation/stock of research materials.

- Lead social media engagement on all @FIUDC channels, including to support the promotion of public events; and interns in DC series.

- Prepare FIU news summaries of signature events.

- Support the development of the monthly FIU newsletter and event invitations.

- Coordinate traffic within FIU in DC calendar, FIU.edu Calendar and other external collaborative calendars, BGOV.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and two (2) years of office or related experience.
  • Positions under National Forensic Science Technology Center will require Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization in related field; OR an equivalent combination of relevant training and/or military experience.

  • 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM
  • 40 hours a week
Advertised Salary

$17.50 - $22.00 per hour
