Position Description: |
The University of Iowa, School of Social Work seeks an accomplished candidate for an associate or full professor of social work to join our growing programs, beginning on August 20, 2025. Tenured professors hold a 9-month academic year appointment. We are seeking candidates with a strong record of scholarly productivity, including a successful record of external funding, and the potential for program leadership roles. The University of Iowa is a member of the Association of American Universities and a Carnegie Foundation designated RU/VH University with an enrollment of 32,000 undergraduate and graduate students. UI is known for its balanced commitment to the arts, sciences, and humanities. It is home to one of the nation's largest academic medical centers and the pioneering Iowa Writers' Workshop. The University is located in the casual yet cosmopolitan environment of Iowa City, widely recognized as one of the country's most livable communities. The School of Social Work offers BA, MSW, and PhD programs at the main campus in Iowa City, and distance education MSW programs around the state of Iowa (Des Moines, Sioux City and an online program). We are growing our programs at all levels. The School is also home to the National Resource Center for Family Centered Practice and the Iowa Consortium for Substance Use Research and Evaluation. Current areas of faculty scholarship include aging; child, family, neighborhood, and community well-being; mental and behavioral health; and family violence. For more information, please visit: http://clas.uiowa.edu/socialwork/ Responsibilities: The successful candidate will work with faculty and students to implement the mission of the University of Iowa and the School of Social Work through the following:
- Sustain an active program of scholarship as evidenced by peer reviewed publications and conference presentations.
- Sustain an active program of externally funded research.
- Teach and mentor graduate and undergraduate students.
- Provide mentorship for junior tenure track faculty.
- Provide leadership and service in support of the School's and University's mission.

Education Requirement: |
- PhD in social work or a closely related discipline at time of appointment.
- Master's degree in Social Work and two years of post-MSW social work practice experience which fulfills CSWE requirements for teaching social work practice courses.

Required Qualifications: |
- Strong record of nationally recognized scholarly productivity, including a substantial record of publications in refereed journals.
- Strong record of external research funding.
- Strong record of success in teaching, including mentoring graduate students through degree completion.
- Strong record of service to the profession, department, and university.

Desirable Qualifications: |
- Experience in program leadership.
- Experience promoting an inclusive culture in the workforce and academic environment.
