This position is located in the outpatient clinic in the Department of Psychiatry Jacksonville and performs clinic nursing responsibilities for the department.

Examples of Duties
-
70% DIRECT CLINICAL * Works diligently with physicians, therapists, reception staff, and other nursing staff to provide quality patient care with regards to new and follow-up appointments, medication refills, triaging patient calls, and coordination of patient care. * Demonstrates high degree of competence in the practice of nursing skills pertaining to the clinical department including triaging and prioritizing of patient calls concerning medication, crisis, and labs ensuring all concerns are followed up in a timely manner. * Prepares patient for exam by obtaining vital signs, a brief allergy history, and any other patient intake processes needed. * Assists nurse or physician with patient procedures and hospitalization as directed. * Following a medical provider's orders, fills orders per the Department of Psychiatry's policy. * Check patient medication refill request line and route accordingly to medical and nursing staff, assisting in completion of request process. * Assists nurses or physicians with insurance referrals/pre-certifications and approval on medication authorization. * During absences assist in back up of other nursing services.
30% OTHER CLINICAL DUTIES * Inspects and maintains physical facilities, including clinical areas and clinical rooms for orderliness, cleanliness, and safety. * Assists in the patient intake process. * Keeps necessary records for inventory of medications. * Keeps necessary records related to controlled substance procedures. * Quality Assurance Reviews as needed, providing input regarding the role of nursing in the outpatient clinic. * Works with other clinical staff to assist in training and coordination of patient care. * Oversees the medical assistant when assisted with vitals, coordinates work efforts. * Demonstrates willingness to train and cover all areas in department. * Assist with psychiatry telehealth clinics. * Assist with patient clinical emergency situations, as well as phone emergencies. * Assists in maintaining adequate inventory lists of clinical supplies. Places orders for supplies when needed. * Stock exam and procedure rooms on a regular basis to ensure adequate availability of supplies needed for daily clinics. * Assist with maintaining necessary records within the clinic area, i.e. AED, refrigerator temperature. * Clean all instruments used in the clinic for patient care by following established guidelines. * Assist with coverage for medical records area or reception as needed. * Assist the Nurse Administrator with quality initiatives and reviews clinic documentation for accuracy as assigned.

Qualifications

1) Possession of a valid license as a Licensed Practical Nurse issued by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, Division of Professional Regulation; AND
2) 6 months of nursing experience in a health care facility (such as a hospital, nursing home, medical clinic, prison, mental health facility, or closely related facilities)
Condition of Employment: Pursuant to the State Universities Civil Service System, an out-of-state resident who is hired into this position must establish Illinois residency within 180 calendar days of their start date.
