POSITION OVERVIEW


The HDD Mud Technician is responsible for ensuring that the drilling fluid properties meet the designed and operational specifications.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Controls the technology to prepare the drilling mud
  • Monitors the drilling fluid mud cleaning system's operation
  • Participates in the optimization of the flushing fluids, and cleaning equipment modes of operation
  • Recommends optimal operating modes for cleaning fluid stages
  • Ensures the biopolymer fluid parameters comply with work plans
  • Recommends treatment of drilling fluid with reagents
  • Recommends the replacement of drilling fluid to maintain optimal parameters and drilling fluid system properties
  • Ensures compliance with labor discipline and technological and safety regulations
  • Complies with the requirements for non-disclosure of confidential information
  • Minimizes waste associated with draining fluids
  • Works with drilling engineers and technicians to ensure a cost-effective drilling process
  • Measures the right amount of mud needed at all stages
  • Assists technicians during the drilling process
  • Provide input in the selection of drill bits
  • Other duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS


  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Previous experience with HDD operations, specifically fluid systems, drilling fluids, and drilling bits
  • Knowledge of different drilling contaminants, additives, and mud treatment
  • Possession of a valid driver's license with a good, clean driving record. CDL preferred.
  • Knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in the construction and maintenance of underground oil/gas transmission systems.
  • Fundamental understanding of safety regulations, OSHA regulations, first aid and methods of applying resuscitation.
  • Knowledge of local and state regulations, rules, specifications, and operating practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret plans and written instructions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team-oriented environment.
  • Consistent travel required throughout United States.


WORKING ENVIRONMENT


Working outdoors in various weather conditions that are not deemed unworkable (i.e. negative degree weather, etc.).
