GENERAL FUNCTION: Act as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) to effectively administer regulatory guidance and to interpret ship's specifications and contractual deliverables in regard to construction and testing equipment for Electrical Distribution Systems and Electrical Equipment.

TYPICAL DUTIES: The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed and are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities.

  • Works closely with the Customer, or Government Representative, with resolving all matters pertaining to the development of test agendas and test procedures on electrical distribution systems (including generators, switchboards, etc.).
  • Ensures quality sustainment with specific function of any engineering product.
  • Utilizes his/her technical expertise and experience to provide recommendations with assisting both internal and external customers on issues and concerns regarding testing of shipboard systems and equipment.
  • Reviews drawings with corresponding changes, correctly interpret ship specifications, and verify vendor furnished information to support functional testing requirements with installed shipboard systems.
  • Serves as a witness to evaluate Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) with regards to the functionality of a designed product at the vendor's facility.
  • Works closely with management team to resolve test related issues in a timely manner.
  • Recognizes schedule compliance with production through the development of associated correspondence to support construction and testing requirements.

REQUIRED/DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with all levels of employees and customers.
  • Strong engineering knowledge in shipboard systems and equipment including operation and design.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of regulatory rules and regulations.
  • Competent in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and Access.
  • Strong organizational, communication, both oral and written and time management skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to effectively perform job duties both independently and in a team environment.

EXPERIENCE & TRAINING: Experience in electrical engineering, shipbuilding, production, and testing processes. A Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or any equivalent combination of experience and training which results in the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Significant time served in an Electrical Engineering position with the US Navy or US Coast Guard is highly preferred.

Level A (Senior): 10 years plus experience

Level B: 5-10 years' experience

Level C: 3-5 years' experience

Level D (Junior): Less than 3 years' experience
