The individual selected for this position will be responsible for internal communications strategy, tactics and execution while also directly supervising the communications support team. In this role the manager of internal communications will develop internal communication strategy to keep team members informed and engaged with timely and strategic communications. This individual will also be responsible for elevating the quality and execution of internal communications from its current state. This position actively supports company initiatives that are critical to the growth of Meijer by engaging team members, positively impacting team member performance, increasing customer loyalty and supporting the company's growth strategy.

What You'll be Doing:



  • Support senior manager in development and execution of internal communications plans for company initiatives with significant impact related to the company's growth strategy.
  • Develop strategic partnerships within the organization to enhance integration, improve quality and drive support for various internal communication programs.
  • Serves as secondary internal communications liaison to the SVP of Stores, the Stores Organization, Fresh Thyme, and the Office of the CIO.
  • Serve as point for editorial support.
  • Develop strategy for evolving internal communications tools/tactics to include social and/or mobile initiatives.
  • Implement solutions to improve/replace existing communication tools, including email, portal pages, campus network, video, print and digital newsletter, and more.
  • Serve as lead for internal communications strategy, while integrating with external communications efforts to keep team members informed and engaged with corporate news.
  • Communicate corporate goals and strategic initiatives to Meijer team which encompasses >70,000 team members who work in store, office, warehouse and manufacturing units in a six-state market, as well as Fresh Thyme team members.
  • Lead development of Stores publications such as monthly Up Next newsletter, executive messaging support for SVP of Stores, portal news content, etc., to keep team connected to goals and objectives.
  • Serves as communication liaison to Fresh Thyme, providing support on enterprise-wide messaging and HR communications support.
  • Provides communication support and counsel to the Office of the CIO, including interdepartmental communications strategy as well as change management communications support and counsel.
  • Serve as program manager for company-wide team member idea generation program, Fresh Ideas, managing end-to-end challenge process, relationships with Change Makers and Fresh Ideas Council, developing and executing all communications and challenges, and working directly with vendor.
  • Work with outside vendors to coordinate, create and produce special projects.

What You Bring with You (Qualifications):



  • Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, English or business-related field; Master's degree in Communications preferred.
  • Minimum seven years of experience in corporate communications with at least two years of supervisory experience preferred.
  • Exceptional fundamental written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong business acumen with demonstrated ability to identify opportunities, link strategies to internal communication campaigns, deliver results and adjust plans as appropriate.
  • Strong project management skills and ability to meet multiple deadlines.
  • Ability to provide counsel to team members at all levels, including senior leadership.
