Position Overview

The University of Missouri Extension is accepting applications for the position of 4-H Natural Resources & Shooting Sports Educator. 4-H is a youth development organization that centers around three mandate areas of STEM, Agriculture and Natural Resources, Healthy Living, and Civic Engagement. Missouri 4-H currently reaches an audience of approximately 50,000 youth with the aid of over 8,000 adult volunteers. The area of 4-H Natural Resources and Shooting Sports programming encompasses a wide range contests and events in the area of STEM, Shooting Sports, and Natural Resources. This full-time position will be responsible for the planning and facilitation of state level, hands-on 4-H events, such as state 4-H judging contests, summer programs and educational programs to promote Natural Resources and Shooting Sports among youth and families around the state of Missouri. This full-time position is also responsible of all the Shooting Sports volunteer trainings which are offered to ensure the educational and safe environment youth need to participate in this program. This position will also support new programming in the areas of Shooting Sports and Natural Resources.

This position will have a working title of 4-H Natural Resources and Shooting Sports Educator and a MU title of Extension Instructor.

As an Extension Instructor, your workload distribution at appointment will be 90% Extension Teaching and 10% Traditional Service.

This appointment is renewable annually at the discretion of the University and workload distribution may change at the discretion of Extension leadership. Circumstances affecting continued employment include, but are not limited to, work performance, fund availability, and educational priorities.

This is a 12-month non-tenure track academic position which is eligible for renewal annually depending on continued programmatic need and individual performance.

Key Responsibilities

• Coordinate, and lead all the volunteer trainings for Shooting Sports certification at the state and national levels
• Coordinate the Shooting Sports Ambassadors and other leadership programs related to the position
• Coordinate the Missouri 4-H Shooting Sports program
• Plan, organize, and facilitate existing state 4-H Natural Resources and Shooting Sports contests, competitions, and other events at the local, state, and national levels
• Assist state 4-H faculty in the creation of new state 4-H Natural Resources and Shooting Sports-based contests, competitions, and events.
• Maintain partnerships with volunteers and sponsors
• Maintain grants associated with the content areas
• Assist state 4-H faculty in the development and implementation of new and existing programming in the areas of Sportfishing, Natural Resources, Shooting Sports and Day/Overnight Camping.
• Aid in the review and development of content area focused project curriculum and resources.
• Promote regional, state & national 4-H Natural Resources and Shooting Sports opportunities.
• Develop, promote, and implement 4-H Natural Resources delivery modes including, but not limited to, SPIN Clubs, Afterschool programs, etc.
• Develop, promote, and implement the 4-H sportfishing, Natural Resources and Shooting Sports at statewide initiatives and events.
• Introduce and promote 4-H sportfishing, Natural Resources and Shooting Sports with diverse audiences.
• Supervise student workers to support program events and activities.
• Other duties as assigned.

LEADERSHIP RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Position will directly report to the Associate Extension Professor & Senior Program Director of 4-H Center for Youth Development.

Earned Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Natural Resources, Youth Development, or another related field at time of appointment.

Candidates will be evaluated on:

• Ability to successfully create and manage a budget for events.
• Ability to work both independently and as a team member.
• Ability to work evenings and weekends as necessary.

• Ability to lift and carry at least 35lbs.
• Additional background check will be required as position works closely with minors.
