Applications are invited for a tenure eligible faculty position at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora, Colorado. This Translational faculty position represents a joint hire between the Departments of Otolaryngology - Head & Neck Surgery (https://medschool.cuanschutz.edu/otolaryngology) and Physiology & Biophysics (https://medschool.cuanschutz.edu/physiology) as we seek to expand the Hearing and Balance research cluster at the UC-AMC. This highly collaborative group includes several NIH-funded investigators with broad interests in peripheral and central mechanisms associated with auditory and vestibular function from animal models to humans and includes Drs. Agrawal, Greene, Klug, Manchaiah, Peng, Rennie, Santos-Cortez, Tollin, Uhler, and others. This unique group of investigators is focused on addressing key research questions in hearing and balance spanning across basic, translational and clinically focused research. The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D., MD or MD/PhD and will lead an active extramurally funded research program focused on central/cortical mechanisms of auditory and/or vestibular function using cutting edge techniques such as in vivo Ca2+ imaging, electrophysiology, bioengineering, brain computer/machine interfaces, and/or computational approaches. Successful applicants are expected to lead a vigorous, externally funded research program, participate in professional, medical and/or graduate program teaching, and complete serve duties for the department, school and/or campus.

The appointee will have the opportunity to join a highly-regarded Otolaryngology - Head & Neck Surgery Department that recently recruited Dr. Yuri Agrawal in August 2023 as Chair. One of Dr. Agrawal's priorities for the Department is to make the requisite investments to grow the Department's research portfolio and impact and lead in Otolaryngology research nationally. The appointee will have the opportunity to participate in the Department of Otolaryngology's NIDCD T32 and R25 training programs and to join the UC-AMC vibrant cross-departmental Neuroscience Program which has > 100 faculty members conducting basic and clinical research. Outstanding collaborative opportunities and core facilities exist at the medical campus to facilitate translational research including a recently renewed NIH CTSA program. Effective mentoring will be provided for junior and mid-career faculty. This position includes start-up funding and lab space at the UC-AMC in Aurora, CO. The appointee will also join a vibrant and growing Department of Physiology & Biophysics under the new leadership of Dr. David DiGregorio - hired as Chair in January 2023 - with a commitment to mentoring faculty and trainees from diverse backgrounds. Research strengths in the Department relevant for this position are systems neuroscience (auditory, visual and motor), brain computer interface, and computational neuroscience. Research topics range from muscle physiology, circuit basis of motor control, visual system and, importantly, the auditory system. Students benefit from NIH-supported interdepartmental graduate programs and centers (e.g., Neuroscience Program, Pharmacology program, Structural Biology and Biochemistry program). The appointee will be able to take advantage of affiliated Faculty within the Departments of Bioinformatics on campus and Applied Mathematics and Computer Science at the CU Boulder campus. The collaboration between the two departments to support this position highlights a unique opportunity for establishing transformative translational research programs that create novel therapeutic opportunities. Qualifications:
|
Minimum Qualifications: Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire. This is an open rank position and could be categorized as Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor based on experience and qualifications as indicated below: Assistant Professor:
- Ph.D., MD, or MD/Ph.D. degree
- If MD degree, should be Board Certified or Board Qualified in Otolaryngology - Head & Neck Surgery
- If Board Qualified, must receive Board Certification within 2 years of hire.
- 3+ years post Ph.D. fellowship training or equivalent training in research.
Associate Professor:
- Ph.D., MD, or MD/Ph.D. degree
- If holding an MD degree, should be Board Certified in Otolaryngology - Head & Neck Surgery
- 4+ years of experience at Assistant Faculty rank or equivalent research scientist rank
Professor:
- Ph.D., MD, or MD/Ph.D. degree
- If holding an MD degree, should be Board Certified in Otolaryngology - Head & Neck Surgery
- 7+ years of experience at Associate Faculty rank or equivalent research scientist rank
Preferred Qualifications: Preferred qualifications are the same for all ranks:
- Hold an active extramurally funded research program focused on central / cortical mechanisms of auditory and/or vestibular function using cutting edge techniques such as in vivo Ca2+ imaging, electrophysiology, bioengineering and/or computational approaches.
- Have a strong record of peer-reviewed academic publications.
- Be able to present a well-developed plan for independent research and funding.

Anticipated Pay Range:
|
The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE: We note that the ranges below reflect the base (fixed) salary ranges in alignment with AAMC Benchmarks by each rank for PhD or other Doctoral Degree in Otolaryngology. Assistant Professor: The salary range for this position has been established at $107,000 - $125,000. Associate Professor: The salary range for this position has been established at $135,000 - $154,000 Professor: The salary range for this position has been established at $150,000 - $190,000. The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training. The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
