GENERAL FUNCTIONS:

Under the direction of Child Watch leadership, the Child Watch Lead is responsible for providing oversight of a safe and nurturing environment for all children entering the YMCA Child Watch. This position follows the mission, policies and safety procedures, and department protocol as directed by the YMCA of Greater Waukesha County.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



  1. Supervise and positively engage with children 6 weeks - 7 years of age.
  2. Serve as a role model for and provide guidance and training to other Child Watch staff as directed by the Child Watch supervisor.
  3. Ensure safety and cleanliness of equipment and facilities.
  4. Represent the department by handling communications with parents and members.
  5. Identify individual needs of children and provide care accordingly.
  6. Encourage and involve children in appropriate group and/or individual play.
  7. Model and explain appropriate behavior. Address and redirect inappropriate behavior of children.
  8. Maintain participant attendance, emergency records and other documentation as assigned.
  9. Develop positive relationships with parents and participants providing motivational support and guidance.
  10. At the discretion of the Child Watch supervisor, may assist with scheduling duties or other administrative tasks.
  11. Follow all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures.
  12. Complete incident and accident reports as necessary.
  13. Exemplifies the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility in all aspects of job performance and in relationships with others.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:



  1. Individuals in this job must have a passion for working with children.
  2. Must be able to effectively communicate with members, parents, and children.
  3. Must have ability to exercise sound, mature judgment and stay alert to potential safety and security problems.
  4. Must be able to work with parents and children of diverse backgrounds.
  5. Must be able to effectively communicate information of YMCA programs to members and participants.
  6. Must have the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and to think and act quickly in emergency situations.


WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Individuals in this position must be able to lift a minimum of 25 pounds, stand for extended periods of time, as well as sit on the floor, bend, reach, and actively engage with children on their level.
