This position offers hybrid work, allowing employees a combination of onsite and work from home options. The expected remote work schedule for this position will be determined upon hire.

Job Summary

GateWay Community College is now hiring a great new role! The Workforce Development Coordinator (Short-term) position operates as a critical component of student success for the Maricopa Community Colleges, supporting students in successfully accessing education and training services within the colleges for applicable grant programs. A Workforce Development Coordinator is a coach and liaison who functions primarily to assist students in linking academic, personal, and professional goals to the workforce. The Workforce Development Coordinator will act as a liaison to key employment partners, services, and resources. This position assists students with career planning and job search resources and career placement strategies.

This position will be assigned to two working locations:

Washington campus: 108 North 40th Street, Phoenix, AZ. 85034

Central City Campus: 1245 East Buckeye Road, Phoenix, AZ. 85034

Additional Information

This is a short-term position and it has an expected job end date June 30, 2025 with renewal based on available funds and the needs of MCCCD.

Essential Functions

40% - Implements career services and job search resources for students ranging from new to college to students graduating from college; tracks success rates.

25% - Develops and organizes graduate and student placement resources; updates job postings; shares employment leads; Assists with creating workshop and training materials, conducting training and providing assistance to participants.

20% - Works with business and industry to develop talent pipelines to create opportunities for Gateway Community College students; Coordinates recruitment events to include employer interviews and career fairs.

15% - Updates and/or maintains websites and other centrally available documentation and information, as assigned. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited institution in business administration, education or related field and one (1) year of experience in workforce training, vocational training and/or economic development.

OR

Associate's Degree from a regionally accredited institution in business administration, education or related field and three (3) years of experience in workforce training, vocational training and/or economic development

OR

High School Diploma/GED and five (5) years of experience in workforce training, vocational training and/or economic development.

Desired Qualifications

A. Two (2) or more years of professional experience working in career services and/or workforce development.

B. One (1) year experience in a career counseling or employment assistance-related role working with a diverse population of students and/or community members.

C. Experience utilizing a computer and relevant software applications; operating a proprietary customer relation management (CRM) system or student management software (SIS), Excel, and Word to document calls and manage participant databases.

D. One or more years experience working and collaborating with faculty, staff, and/or industry partners managing complex projects

E. Experience developing and delivering group presentations

F. Effective written communication skills (as evidenced by application materials)

Special Working Conditions
  • Will be required to travel or be assigned to all GateWay locations
  • May require some evenings or weekends
  • May require prolonged periods of viewing a computer screen
  • May be required to lift or carry up to #25 lbs.
