West Virginia University Health Science Center is currently accepting applications for a Research Assistant Professor with the Department of Orthopaedics. About the Opportunity A Research Assistant Professor position is available in the Department of Orthopaedics at West Virginia University. This is a full-time, non-tenure track, faculty position designed for an individual with a strong track record of research achievement in microbiology and/or orthopaedic biomaterials. WVU Orthopaedics is committed to advancing research surrounding orthopaedics and orthopaedic surgery. The Research Assistant Professor position will focus on improving the treatment of prosthetic joint infections and implant-related infections which will be done by evaluating the impact of prosthetic joint infection on local tissues and systems. The efficiencies of current treatments for biofilm-related infections and new treatment modalities will be explored. WVU offers generous benefits, including: What you'll do: The hire will become a part of a research team headed by Dr. Matthew Dietz, Professor and Chair of WVU Orthopaedics. The hire will perform bench research on the evaluation of in vitro and in vivo prosthetic joint infection models. In addition, this hire will assist in data management and efficient operation of the director's laboratory. The hire will be responsible for manuscript preparation and submission, grant proposal generation, symposia presentations, work-in-progress seminars, and the recruitment and mentoring of students. Specific responsibilities will include generation, maintenance, experimentation, and testing on biofilms. In addition, day-to-day management of the lab will be facilitated through ordering of supplies, protocol generation, and routine maintenance. Daily communication with the lab director and the research assistant on all aspects of work will be needed. The Research Assistant Professor will participate in department activities. The proposed hire will be encouraged and provided guidance to develop their own independent line of research in the aligned area and apply for extramural funding. The proposed hire will gain a national and international reputation by securing extramural presentations, invitations to submit manuscripts, and collaborations in the aligned field. Qualifications
