Position Summary This role will be responsible for overseeing all technical research and supporting the business with new transactions and contracts. The position also has responsibility for all aspects of benefits accounting as well as other projects and responsibilities as necessary to help the Company succeed.
Tasks and Responsibilities * Supervises Benefits Accounting Manager as well as Technical Accounting department. * Develop and maintain relationships with various internal key players to become trusted finance business partner. * Performs and/or reviews accounting research and evaluation of accounting issues, new business events, transactions, and contracts to assess their impact on the Company's financial statements, including documenting the accounting and reporting treatment, as needed. * Serves as the accounting subject matter expert for all accounting functions, including complex matters involving consolidation, leasing, revenue recognition, accounting for investments, goodwill, derivatives and intangible impairment and regulatory accounting. * Supervises Benefits Accounting Manager in the accounting and reporting for all the Company employee/retiree benefit plans, including the annual audits and financial statement preparation for the pension plan, health and welfare plans and the 401K plans and the accounting for all benefit plans and incentive compensation in accordance with GAAP, SEC, FERC or the DOL. * Advises management on the accounting and financial impact of implementing proposed employee benefit strategies and oversees the accounting group's role in implementing those strategies. * Supervises Benefits Accounting Manager in the budget process for all major benefit costs and advises management on significant assumption changes and variances. * Monitors/reviews proposed and newly issued Accounting Standards. Performs impact assessment, implements the new accounting standards, and documents the impact to the Company's financial statements, processes and procedures. * Oversees the process to update P&Ps with the various P&P owners and develop and finalize required P&Ps, including updating or develops P&Ps associated with new accounting standards and other Technical Accounting P&Ps. * Reviews the P&Ps issued by the Company's parent company to identify differences to existing P&Ps and identify P&Ps requiring update. * Manages and looks for, continuous improvement in, the Finance Department's Change Control program to identify and report change throughout the Company that may have an impact to the Company's financial statements, including training the Finance team members responsible to reporting the change. * Lead cross-functional initiatives to improve processes or procedures that impact the Finance department and other areas of the business. * Draft and/or review recurring quarterly white papers. * Problem solving/resolving accounting issues. * Assist with Regulatory Filings as necessary. * Other special projects as necessary
Qualifications, Skills and Abilities * Bachelor's degree in accounting (or a related field) preferred * Master's Degree preferred * 10+ Years experience in accounting required * CPA preferred * Extensive experience with writing white papers and accounting research * Proven ability to prioritize, work under pressure and meet tight deadlines. * Energetic self-starter with excellent communication, presentation, writing and organizational skills * Ability to work with inter-departmental teams at all levels of management. * Ability to identify and solve complex problems. * Excellent verbal and written communication skills. * Public Accounting experience preferred * Experience in or knowledge of the regulated energy industry preferred. We offer a competitive salary range of $136,500 to $187,875 per year, commensurate with experience, education, and skills.
