Job Summary

Leads a portfolio of clinical, quality, and operational process improvement initiatives throughout the organization, across service lines and care venues (acute, post-acute, ambulatory) utilizing improvement tools and methodologies to improve overall outcomes. Supports complex projects through the complete project cycle; manages the design, development, delivery and evaluation of clinical-based improvement work; and provides continuous process improvement coaching, facilitation, education and functions as a champion for Prisma Health's Performance Excellence and Continuous Improvement program. Facilitates the use of data to identify opportunities to improve clinical outcomes, prevent events with the potential to negatively impact patient care, promote a culture of patient safety and improve hospital processes.

Essential Functions

  • Leads larger, more complex quality, clinical, and operational process improvement projects across the organization through the complete project cycle. Utilizes the appropriate application of improvement methodologies and tools (Lean, Six Sigma, PDCA, etc.), collection and analysis of data, application of consistent standards, and best practices, to improve outcomes to ensure safe, effective, efficient, patient centered care.

  • Maintains and successfully balances a moderately sized portfolio of improvement projects through the complete project cycle through careful project management, appropriate utilization of the most optimal tools for each project, appropriate delegation to team members, appropriate scoping and phasing of the projects, and exceptional time management. Ensures that project status reports and other updates are provided on a timely basis, meeting the needs of all stakeholders

  • Utilizes data analysis to identify opportunities and make recommendations to improve clinical outcomes, prevent events with the potential to negatively impact patient care, promote a culture of patient safety and improve hospital processes. Develops methods for measuring outcomes against established targets; assists in the identification of criterions and effective qualitative/quantitative measurement tools

  • Works collaboratively and independently with assigned teams and key stakeholders to improve quality outcomes, improve patient safety, improve satisfaction, and/or decrease cost, through reduction of needless variability, waste, and errors, involving all appropriate personnel, including team members, team leader, team champion, and staff involved in testing and diffusing change. Works with all levels of leadership, physicians, front line staff, and allied professionals throughout the system.

  • Provides context-specific, just in time performance improvement training and mentoring to assigned teams in order to simultaneously improve team member knowledge and ability and to help the projects stay on track toward success. Provides training in the realm of performance improvement, to develop and enhance Prisma Health staff knowledge, skills, and abilities.

  • Provides process improvement and daily management system coaching, facilitation, education and improvement activity and functions as a champion for Prisma Health's Excellence Methodology

  • Provides consulting support in the realm of performance improvement to individuals and teams across the organization.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervisory/Management Responsibilities

  • This is a non-management job that will report to a supervisor, manager, director or executive.

Minimum Requirements

  • Education - Master's Degree in Engineering, Nursing, Business, Healthcare Administration, or Human Factors

  • Experience - Minimum of Four (4) years of experience in process improvement methodologies (Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma Green Belt/Black Belt preferred), analytics and management systems. Healthcare improvement preferred.

In Lieu Of

  • Five (5) years of improvement experience utilizing Lean, Six Sigma, or other improvement methodologies may be used in lieu of Master's degree.

Required Certifications, Registrations, Licenses

  • Lean Six Sigma certification or other relevant improvement methodology preferred.

  • Certified Professional Healthcare Quality or Certified Professional Patient Safety preferred.
