The Pharmacy Technician Specialist - Controlled Substances will join the elite team at Scripps Memorial Hospital Encinitas.

The Controlled Substances Specialist Technician protects enterprise assets and works to prevent pharmacy controlled substance inventory loss through comprehensive audits of inventory, random reconciliations of inventory for controlled substance medications, and analysis of trends. Principal responsibilities include, but are not limited to:



  • Conduct onsite audits of receiving and inventory logs for controlled substance medications, medication invoices, and shipments
  • Review and maintain updated medication invoice and controlled substance receiving procedures
  • Monitory inventory for all controlled substance medications to correlate electronic inventory with quantity on-hand
  • Detect and investigate any perceived or confirmed incident of controlled substance diversion or theft
  • Report findings to leadership and make recommendations for action or follow-up with staff or inventory correction
  • Work with internal leaders to promote awareness of findings, deficiencies, areas of risk and make recommendations for process improvements
  • Maintain knowledge and understanding of controlled substance law at the federal, state, and local level
  • Oversee ADC controlled substance inventory management processes and proper counts (including monthly inventory)
  • Ensure the timely resolution of ADC controlled substance discrepancies as supported by departmental policy and procedure
  • Provide audits for pharmacy personnel when conducting daily ADC transaction activities
  • Provide audits for nursing medication administration, documentation, and waste
  • Work with internal leaders to promote awareness of findings, deficiencies, areas of risk and make recommendations for process improvements
  • Maintain knowledge and understanding of controlled substance law at the federal, state, and local level
  • Conduct staff training as necessary

Qualifications

Experience/Specialized Skills:



  • High school diploma or equivalent.



Required Certification/Registration:



  • Current Pharmacy Technician License.
  • Certification by a National Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (CPhT) required within 6 months of hire.
  • Minimum 2 years pharmacy technician experience.



Required Education/Course(s)/Training:



  • 5 years inpatient experience preferred
