Geosyntec has an exciting opportunity for an Intern / Co-Op - Civil / Environmental Engineering, Geology, Environmental Science in our Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania office. The position offers the opportunity to apply engineering (civil, geotechnical, environmental, and water resources), environmental science, geology, or hydrogeology academic knowledge to real-world situations while also learning the business skills needed for a successful consulting career. The position is full-time (40 hours/week), with the potential for overtime, for approximately 13 to 15 weeks during the spring/summer of 2025. Candidates would have the ability to return to the position for up to two additional semester rotations during their undergraduate or graduate studies. Candidates are responsible for coordinating their own transportation to and from the office.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    Assist with environmental or geotechnical engineering calculations using computer-based technical tools.
  • Technical writing of environmental or geotechnical reports, letters, memoranda, plans, specifications, and proposals.
  • Data input and analysis, including preparing maps, tables, and figures.
  • Interact and build working relationships in a diverse office of professionals and provide valuable contribution to real-world environmental projects, including a variety of compliance, investigation, geotechnical engineering, and/or remediation projects.
  • Follow instructions and interact with engineers, geologists, environmental scientists, office administrative staff, CADD/GIS operators, contractors, and construction oversight personnel from across the firm.
  • Attend training and meet qualifications to obtain Occupational Hazard and Safety Administration (OSHA) Hazardous Waste Operation and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) certification.
  • Potential for fieldwork such as soil and groundwater sampling, stormwater inspections, environmental and geotechnical drilling, contractor oversight, observation of exploration borings, and planning for site investigations and laboratory testing.
  • Support projects by assisting with geotechnical reports, designs, and analysis for structural and slope stability.
  • Gain experience working with emerging environmental contaminants and key environmental sampling technologies/methodologies.
  • Travel or driving to project sites as needed with potential for overnight, company-paid travel.


Education and Licensure

  • Currently registered in a Bachelor's or Master's university degree program in a relevant engineering, geology, or environmental science discipline. (required)
  • Degree focus area in civil, geotechnical, environmental or water resources engineering, geology, hydrogeology, or environmental science (preferred)


Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • Local to the Pittsburgh, PA area. (required)
  • Experience with ArcGIS Pro, CADD, and/or Microsoft Office. (preferred)
  • Outstanding academic credentials and exceptional interpersonal, technical writing, oral and written communication and problem-solving skills. (required)
  • Valid U.S. driver's license and satisfactory driving record for business travel to project sites. (required)
  • Must have reliable transportation for office commute, business travel, and mobilization to project sites. (required)
