Non-Exempt Job Summary
This position is responsible for coordinating and executing various activities within the water quality and research department to ensure compliance with drinking water regulations and further program development. Ensure all compliance requirements are followed and maintained per local, state, and federal regulations. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Execute water quality monitoring plans and research studies to assess water quality, evaluate treatment performance, and ensure compliance with drinking water regulations. Perform chemical and microbiological analyses associated with drinking water compliance, treatment process control, customer complaints/requests, research and technology projects and special studies. Investigate and resolve customer complaints and requests for water quality information. Communicate with internal and external customers in verbal and written form in a timely manner; compile information from multiple sources, summarize, write reports and give presentations as needed. Analyze, review and validate process and compliance data and related QA/QC results. Apply basic statistical analysis and make corrective actions as appropriate. Provide recommendations for improving treatment and distribution water quality and optimizing water system operations. Conduct experiments for improving treatment and distribution water quality and optimizing water system operations. Follow all laboratory protocols for sample collection, preservation, receiving, analysis, QA/QC, data review and reporting, documentation control and record keeping. Manage water quality data from various database systems, including LIMS, WIMS, SCADA, GIS, etc. Update and maintain analytical methods, SOPs, forms and work instructions as needed. Operate and maintain lab and field equipment and instrumentation as assigned. Develop routine progress status reports, department and program reports, goal/measures reports, etc. Maintain laboratory records and important documents/communications as required by regulatory guidelines. Serve as a technical resource for treatment response during abnormal or emergency conditions. Collaborate with cross-functional teams and personnel at all levels of the organization to address water quality challenges and strengthen water programs. Maintain relationships with internal support areas to improve overall organizational effectiveness. Maintain external relationships with relevant regulatory agencies, customers and key stakeholders. Keep abreast of new developments in drinking water research and maintain technical competence through continuous training, independent study and self-improvement. Follow and satisfy all laboratory safety, quality control and quality assurance requirements. Perform other duties as assigned. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY None WORKING CONDITIONS Generally, works 40 hours in laboratory and/or field settings. Chemical and bacteriological laboratories may contain hazardous materials and equipment. Field activities may include walking on varying surfaces/terrain under all types of weather conditions. Travel between company offices and field worksites may be required. Requires working weekend and holiday shifts on a rotational basis. Subject to emergency call-out. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor of Science degree in engineering, chemistry, biology, or related field; and Three (3) years of water quality, water treatment, laboratory, or research experience; and Must pass all required QA/QC protocols/tests administered by the State of Kentucky within six (6) months of hire date; and Valid driver's license. OR Master of Science degree in engineering, chemistry, biology, or related field; and One (1) year of water quality, water treatment, laboratory, or research experience. Must pass all required QA/QC protocols/tests administered by the State of Kentucky within six (6) months of hire date; and Valid driver's license.
