Position description

TENURE-TRACK OR TENURED FACULTY APPOINTMENT IN NEURODEGENERATION RESEARCH

Department of Neurology

University of California Irvine (UCI)

UCI invites applications for a full-time tenure-track/tenured, in-line position at the Assistant, Associate, or full Professor rank to join the faculty of the Department of Neurology in the School of Medicine, College of Health Sciences, University of California, Irvine.

Ideal applicants will be employing molecular, cellular, neurobiological, imaging, and/or genetic approaches to the study of neurodegenerative disease, including ALS, or other neurodegenerative disorders, with an emphasis on translational application. Successful candidates will have track records of creativity and productivity, will demonstrate potential for outstanding future achievement, and will have a desire to participate in an exciting, interactive, collegial, and rapidly growing neuroscience and neurological disease research community.

Applicants should hold a M.D., Ph.D., M.D.-Ph.D., or equivalent degree(s) along with evidence of a rigorous research program, a strong track record of publications, and extramural funding, along with an international reputation.

Applicants will be expected to contribute to teaching at both the graduate and undergraduate levels and will demonstrate a commitment to leadership and service at UCI and wider communities. Tenure-track and tenured faculty are expected to mount a productive and innovative research program, obtain extramural funding, and actively participate in graduate student, medical student, and resident education. The successful candidate will be able to leverage existing resources and strengths of UCI Health and its campus partners, that include the Neurotherapeutics and Neurodegeneration Collaboratory, the UCI Center for Neurotherapeutics, the NCATS-funded Institute for Clinical and Translational Sciences (ICTS), the UCI Institute for Precision Health, the Sue and Bill Gross Stem Cell Research Center (SCRC), and the CIRM-supported Alpha Clinic. The successful candidate will be expected to support the graduate student and resident training education in clinical and basic neurosciences and in biomedical sciences. Researchers at UCI also benefit from outstanding resources and collaborators housed in UCI Beall Applied Innovation, the UCI Health Beckman Laser Institute, the Center for Neural Circuit Mapping, and the Genomic Research & Technology core hub, among others.

We expect the successful applicant to demonstrate a genuine commitment to service activities within the local, national, and international community. For physician-scientist applicants, there will be opportunities for maintaining an active clinical presence in our robust neurodegenerative and neuromuscular disorders clinics.

Applicants will be evaluated on potential to contribute to inclusive excellence in areas of service, teaching and research.
