The Department of Family and Community Medicine is recruiting an Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) to join the actively evolving Cancer Cognitive Clinic program and the Cancer Survivorship program within the UC Health system. The provider will offer outpatient services primarily at the Barrett Cancer Center and possibly the UC Gardner Neuroscience Institute, depending on the assigned space. They will provide care in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team and further the COM mission through excellence in education, innovation, and clinical care in the field of cancer survivorship and cancer cognitive care.

Essential Functions

  • Clinical Care



      • Collaborate with the Cancer Cognitive Care team to provide evaluation of patients presenting with complaints of cognitive changes at UC Health with an active or prior history of cancer.
      • Responsible for initial evaluations as well as routine follow-up visits for those presenting with complaints of cognitive changes.
      • Collaborate with the attending physician to discuss clinical cases as needed.
      • Phone Management, Visits, and Acute Visits as deemed appropriate by attending physician.
      • Attend the twice monthly Cancer Survivorship Core Meetings.
      • Contribute to the Cancer Cognitive Clinical registry and clinical research.




  • Teaching:



      • Contribute to a positive learning environment for learners.
      • Participate in the journal club.
      • Provide education and serve as a resource for patients in area of clinical expertise.




  • Administrative and Continuity of Care, including:



      • Clinical administrative duties that include review of test results, assistance with patient phone calls and messages, and overall coordination of care in collaboration with nursing and attending physicians.
      • Creation of educational materials for patients.
      • Regular review of patients with Director of Breast Health Clinic.




  • Collaborate with the Cancer Survivorship team to perform survivorship visits for patients and the attending physician on clinical cases and/or seek supervision/joint visits when felt necessary by either the APP or attending physician.
  • Attend monthly Cancer Wellness Clinic meetings. Participate in quality improvement initiatives within the clinical sites.

Minimum Requirements

Nurse Practitioner:

Required Education

Master's degree in nursing from an accredited nursing program.

Required Experience

Three (3) years nursing experience; additional related work experience may be required depending on specialty/sub-specialty.

Required Trainings/Certifications



  • Active Ohio APRN license with prescriptive authority.
  • Active Board Certification in appropriate nursing specialty.

Physician Assistant:

Required Education

Master's Degree from an accredited Physician Assistant program.

Required Experience

Minimum of one (1) year experience is required; additional related work experience may be required depending on specialty/sub-specialty.

Required Trainings/Certifications



  • Active Ohio Physician Assistant license with prescriptive authority.
  • Certification as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.

Additional Qualifications Considered

  • Skills to provide cognitive care for a variedpopulation with a history of cancer, of adult ages in the outpatient setting, including:

    • Communication skills to lead family meetings, goals of care discussions and health prevention strategies with cultural humility.
    • Complete psychosocial assessments.


  • Ability to work within the cognitive care team that includes:

    • Providing a supportive team environment through expressing enthusiasm, approachability, and respect for all members of the healthcare team.
    • Encouraging all team members to participate in the development of treatment plans.
    • Respect for differing opinions.
    • Openness to feedback from all colleagues.




  • Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience as an APP or 3+ years of any clinical experience in neurology, oncology or a related field.
  • Willingness to participate in additional training in the field of cognitive care and cancer survivorship.
