Your Role With Us: As the Lab Courier you will need to be an outgoing individual who thrives in an independent work environment. You will operate a Salem Health provided vehicle to collect specimens from our clinics and other contracted clients then return to our regional or priority labs in a timely manner.Core Functions:Timely, efficient and safe pickup and delivery of specimens, supplies and reports.Positive specimen identification and transport integrity at all times.Notifies supervisor of problems and subsequent actions.Maintain appropriate inventory levels of forms and supplies for delivery to client facilities.Operate company vehicle in safe manner, wears passive restraint, obeys all traffic laws and maintains good driving record.Coordinate all routine maintenance on delivery vehicle. Notifies supervisor in a timely manner when non-routine maintenance/repair is required. Maintains appropriate stock of emergency supplies and equipment in vehicle.Maintain complete and accurate specimen/report log.Communicate with dispatch and others in appropriate manner and observes rules related to cell phone utilization.Maintain knowledge of guidelines, policies and procedures by means of annual review.Actively participates in training of new personnel.Possess adequate working knowledge of the Laboratory Information System. Utilizes the system appropriately and effectively

    Background/Expertise:

    • Prior experience in a medical office or laboratory is preferred.
    • Demonstrated customer service experience is required; Prior experience with Laboratory Information Systems and Hospital Information Systems highly desirable.
    • Must possess a valid Oregon driver's license for at least two (2) years and have good driving skills and an excellent driving record; Commercial driving experience is desirable.
    • Must be able to communicate in an effective and professional manner with clients, their representatives and patients and have the ability to understand and follow detailed instructions.
    • Additional duties include delivery of supply orders to clients, adherence to a published route schedule and notification of the laboratory dispatcher of any necessary variation.
    • The person in this position must be familiar with specimen handling requirements and transport all specimens in approved containers at required temperatures.
    • The courier must be familiar with and adhere to all traffic regulations and practice defensive driving and road courtesy at all times.
