The UC Irvine natural reserves and field stations serve to advance research, education, and public stewardship and are a vehicle for UC faculty, staff, and student scholarship.They are part of a larger network of the University of California Natural Reserve System (UCNRS) (https://ucnrs.org). The Steele/Burnand Anza-Borrego Desert Research Center (SBABDRC) (https://anzaborrego.ucnrs.org/) is situated on a 78 acre University owned reserve adjacent to Anza-Borrego State Park and participates in a Cooperative Agreement with State Parks and the Anza-Borrego Foundation. The 12,400 square foot Research Center includes a classroom, laboratory, four individual researcher/instructor bedrooms, dormitories for up to 24 people, a kitchen and dining room, offices, patios and public event space.


Your Role on the Team

*NOTE: 30% LIMITED POSITION IS LOCATED IN BORREGO SPRINGS, CA
Under supervision by the Desert Reserves Director, the custodian is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of the SBABDRC facilities and landscaped paths and tracking and restocking necessary supplies. Duties include but are not limited to: floor sweeping/mopping and vacuuming, dusting, bathroom cleaning and sanitation, kitchen cleaning, cleaning of fixtures and furniture, interior trash removal, window cleaning, and additional tasks as necessary to ensure all facilities are maintained at a high level of cleanliness. Responsibilities may include weekend work and after-hours emergency responses and cleaning.

The expected salary range for this position is $19.47/hour - $25.67/hour.

Required:

  • Work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to follow instructions.
  • Ability to follow, model and promote conduct that adheres to the University of California Principles of Community.
  • Communicate with staff, supervisor and residents.
  • Communicate in English.
  • Ability to use cleaning equipment.

Preferred:

  • Ability to report damages. (will train)
  • Ability to set and dispose of mice in mouse traps. (will train)
  • Knowledge of cleaning chemicals. (will train)

Special Conditions:

  • May include work on weekends. May include occasional visits to fill in or work with custodian at other field station (Burns Pinon Ridge Reserve).
