Job Summary:



The Department of Radiology at University of Colorado School of Medicine on the Anschutz Medical Campus is seeking applicants for Section Chief of Musculoskeletal Imaging. This is a full-time position at the Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor level.

Join the academic faculty as the Section Chief of the Musculoskeletal Imaging and Intervention (MSK) section at the University of Colorado Department of Radiology. This leadership position involves overseeing the clinical, educational, and research missions of the MSK section. The Section Chief will assume a key leadership role in managing section operations, driving clinical excellence, promoting academic growth, and fostering collaboration across departments. Our clinical and research collaborations span nationally recognized practices in orthopedic and non-operative sports medicine, with imaging services for several Denver-area professional and collegiate teams. The section also collaborates with active limb restoration, spine surgery, rheumatology, oncology, pain management, and rehabilitation services, offering abundant clinical and research opportunities for the faculty.

Key Responsibilities
As Section Chief, you will:



  • Lead and manage the MSK section, providing strategic vision, mentorship, and guidance to faculty, fellows, and staff.
  • Oversee the clinical operations of the section, ensuring the highest standards of care in MSK imaging and intervention, including MRI, CT, ultrasound, and radiographs.
  • Collaborate with other departments such as Orthopedic Surgery, PM&R, and Sports Medicine to advance interdisciplinary patient care.
  • Manage along with the MSK education lead with the section's education efforts, supporting two MSK fellows and teaching over 40 residents, fostering academic and career development.
  • Participate in administrative decision-making, including budgeting, staffing, and resource allocation to support the section's growth.
  • Take a leadership role in recruitment, retention, and professional development of MSK faculty.


Diagnostic and Clinical Responsibilities
The Section Chief will participate in clinical duties, including:



  • Subspecialty interpretation of MSK MRI, CT, ultrasound, and radiographs. Spine imaging interpretation will be shared with the Neuroradiology section.
  • Performing standard interventional MSK procedures such as CT-guided and ultrasound-guided biopsy, spine injections, and joint injections/aspirations. Opportunities for advanced procedures, including kyphoplasty and tumor ablation, are available but not required.
  • Weekend call duties shared by all section members, with MSK specialty-specific coverage.


The section employs two physician assistants who help manage the procedural workload and contribute to clinical practice efficiency. Faculty members have access to personal workstations for occasional work-from-home duties, with clinical responsibilities based primarily at the main hospital in Aurora.

This is an open rank position and could be categorized as Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor based on experience and qualifications as indicated below. Total career progression opportunity within ranks is dependent upon rank at entry.

  • Fellowship Training in Musculoskeletal Imaging

Anticipated Pay Range:



The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

Assistant Professor- $430,000 - $480,000

Associate Professor- $430,000 - $480,000

Professor- $430,000 - $480,000

Faculty are eligible for bonus.

Salaries are based on years of experience and are equal across academic ranks. Academic rank will be determined during the interview process after discussion between the candidate and the department about previous experience.

The salaries listed above include $10,000 stipend to perform the duties of Chief of Musculoskeletal Imaging.
