ASML US, including its affiliates and subsidiaries, bring together the most creative minds in science and technology to develop lithography machines that are key to producing faster, cheaper, more energy-efficient microchips. We design, develop, integrate, market and service these advanced machines, which enable our customers - the world's leading chipmakers - to reduce the size and increase the functionality of their microchips, which in turn leads to smaller, more powerful consumer electronics. Our headquarters are in Veldhoven, Netherlands, and we have 18 office locations around the United States including main offices inChandler, Arizona, San Jose and San Diego, California, Wilton, Connecticut, and Hillsboro, Oregon.

Within D&E (Development and Engineering) projects, the PSE (Product Safety Engineer) is principally responsible to create/review safety specifications and definitions for tooling designs and complex sub-system functions, while leading one or more safety risk areas on a global scale as part of the global product safety competency. Partner on multiple strategic product levels focusing on human safety risk areas. Responsible for knowledge within assigned core safety risk area.

Role and responsibilities

  • Conduct reviews to evaluate product safety with human safety emphasis.

  • Support product management in customer interaction regarding Product Safety.

  • Identify and isolate potential safety hazards.

  • Review safety procedures.

  • Anticipate, recognize, and evaluate safety hazards.

  • Ensure safety compliance across multiple business product lines and programs.

  • Determine regulatory/certification/compliance issues and/or identify foreseeable non-compliance.

  • Review and approve or modify changes to product safety design.

  • Maintain proficiency of worldwide safety regulations through research, development of network, and ongoing education.

  • Reduce liability and human safety risks by performing Safety Risk Assessments (SRAs).

  • Maintain WoW (Way of Working) regarding Product Safety deliverables (compliancy, regulatory, safety documentation).

  • This position is located on-site in Wilton, CT. It requires onsite presence to attend in-person work-related events, trainings and meetings and to further ensure teamwork, collaboration and innovation. (Important to insert additional onsite language specific to the role: i.e., inspection, specific training and supervision, etc.)

Education and experience

  • Degree in Engineering, Science, or related discipline.

  • Bachelor's degree with 8 years experience.

  • Master's degree with 5 years experience.

  • Minimum qualifications - the hired candidate must possess all of the minimum qualifications to be initially considered for the position including:

  • Minimum # of years of relevant experience (see above) in product safety, who conveys theories and practices of the professional field to experts and non-experts.

  • Internally & externally recognized authority on human safety risk area knowledge.

  • Knowledge of safety regulations (i.e. lasers, hoisting/lifting/transport, human safety/ergonomics, electrical compliance).

  • Experience in multidisciplinary project work.

Must be willing to work in a clean room environment, wearing coveralls, hoods, booties, safety glasses and gloves. Working under ISO 9000/14000 standards.

The environment in the cleanroom is moderate in temperature with moderate to high noise level.

Working around lasers; working with ladders; working on platforms; and working around chemicals.

The employee is occasionally required to move around the campus.

This position requires access to controlled technology, as defined in the United States Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. * 730, et seq.). Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to access such controlled technology prior to beginning work. Business demands may require ASML to proceed with candidates who are immediately eligible to access controlled technology.
