Summary of Job Duties:The Department of Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness at the University of Arkansas is seeking candidates for a 9-month, 100% appointed tenure-track Assistant Professor. The successful candidate will develop an internationally recognized research program related to agricultural production economics and climate change adaptation and mitigation. Relevant expertise for consideration for this position may include production economics, climate change modeling, technology adoption for climate change mitigation and adaptation, spatial econometrics, and a strong desire to conduct multi-disciplinary work. Demonstrated expertise in data collection, statistical data handling, and applying modeling techniques to agricultural production problems is highly desired. Candidates are expected to be proficient in applied econometrics. Other relevant quantitative research expertise is desirable as well. Candidates are expected to support their program through competitive extramural funding.

Teaching Responsibilities: The successful candidate will teach courses as assigned by the department head based on departmental curriculum needs. Initial teaching assignments will include two courses per year. Possible areas of instruction for this position include Production Economics, Sustainability, or other areas in which the candidate may have expertise. Courses may be developed or assigned based on the candidate's expertise and departmental curriculum needs. The successful candidate should have a strong commitment to undergraduate and graduate student education and training, as well as participating in departmental activities. Collegiality and on-campus availability are expected of all full-time faculty members in Bumpers College. Involvement in graduate student education as a committee member and as a major advisor is expected.

Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others. Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • An earned Doctorate in agricultural/applied economics, economics, or related fields from an accredited institution conferred by the start of employment

  • Evidence of excellent quantitative skills

  • Experience in collaborative scholarship

  • Excellent written and verbal communication ability

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Record of scholarship, including publication in leading refereed journals

  • Demonstrated success in pursuit of extramural funding

  • Teaching experience

  • Experience with industry/stakeholder engagement

The Department of Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness (AEAB) in Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food, and Life Sciences consists of approximately 25 faculty members, with personnel located in Fayetteville, Little Rock, and Jonesboro engaged in the comprehensive land-grant mission of research, extension, and teaching. The Southern Risk Management Education Center (SRMEC), established at the University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture in 2009, is funded by the USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) and is one of four regional Extension Risk Management Education Centers located throughout the country whose mission is to educate America's farmers and ranchers to manage the unique risks of producing food for the world's table. The Fryar Price Risk Management Center of Excellence was established in the AEAB Department in 2020 with a gift from Dr. Ed and Michelle Fryar. Its mission is to deliver a stakeholder-informed, internationally recognized research program in price risk management that improves decision-making for farms and businesses, offers unparalleled educational opportunities for students, and enhances professional opportunities for faculty and staff.
