Primary Purpose:

Provide operational technology direction and technical support for assigned Generation Facility. Provide guidance and support to ensure cyber security for Electric Generation Network and Control Systems. Maintain, install, upgrade and configure Operational Technology (OT) systems, software and hardware to ensure reliable and secure operation of the Electric Generation control systems and networks. Establish and maintain security for generation systems. Manage the assigned NERC CIP programs for Electric Generation. Work closely with Generation Management, Staff, Engineers, and Technicians to ensure safe and reliable operation and maintenance Generation assets.

Duties and Responsibilities:




  • Perform systems administration and problem resolution for Windows desktops & servers, routers, switches, firewalls and appliances inside the Generation control systems networks. Analyze and interpret technical problems, diagnose and perform problem resolution on OT systems, and develop practical operational solutions.
  • Assess, perform change control, testing and documentation for planned or unplanned outages or changes which impact OT systems and/or the operation of the Generation control systems and network infrastructure.
  • Establishes and maintains security for generation OT systems. Interfaces with Generation staff to use software and hardware tools. Identify, document, remediate and/or enhance OT system security, potential risks, vulnerabilities, system accounts, authentication systems, and other cyber security components. Supports IT/OT audits to include document requests and resolution of findings.
  • Provides strategic direction and ideas for converging IT Technologies and Generation control network systems and equipment. Identifies, implements new technologies and automates systems to enhance the security, operations and function of Generation control systems and infrastructure.
  • Perform administrator functions for plant IT systems, as assigned. Act as a liaison with Corporate IT to assist plant personnel with computer and IT system issues.
  • Assists in the development and organization of procedures, policies, standards and other documents required to meet NERC CIP Critical Infrastructure Protection requirements.
  • Performs other duties as assigned (no more than 5% of duties).


Location:



  • Must reside in Arizona or Nevada.
  • Must be able to report to the Desert Star Energy Center located at 701 Eldorado Valley Dr., Boulder City, NV 89005.



Required Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Engineering or related area or equivalent experience
  • 5 years experience with Information Technology systems.
  • Experience associated with managing third-party consultants is required.
  • Experience operating and maintaining a variety of technical platform operating systems which may include Cisco routers, switches, appliances, Active Directory administration, virtual machine systems, network management systems, or Windows servers and desktops is required.
  • Knowledge or experience with enterprise network systems, systems and network management, or control systems infrastructure design and operation.
  • Knowledge or understanding of the NERC CIP cybersecurity requirements.
  • Knowledge of Visio, Word, Excel and the Microsoft suite of software to document network infrastructure, control systems, Windows operating systems, and Active Directory or other authentication systems (e.g. Radius).
  • Ability to understand and learn the Generation control systems equipment, functions and operations.
  • Requires interpersonal skills to develop and maintain productive working relationships with individuals at various levels within SDG&E, as well as external vendors, agencies and companies. Includes personnel such as consultants, technical staff, contractors, regulatory agency personnel and customers.
  • Requires the ability to understand and work within a process-driven environment.
  • Requires analytical skills, ingenuity, judgment, and tact in performance of duties.
  • Requires the ability to represent company issues in meetings, regulatory hearings, audits, at training functions, or trade and industry functions.
  • Requires the ability to work without direct supervision and with a high level of initiative.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills required.
  • This position requires the ability to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions.
  • Must be able to use safety equipment as required. Must be willing to be on-call for emergencies and work extra hours.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Information technology certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, CISSP, or Microsoft are highly desirable.
  • Experience and or knowledge of power plant control networks (DCS or SCADA).
  • Familiarity with industrial communication protocols, such as Modbus and DNP3, is desirable.
