Summary of the Job: Provides commercial lending activities, in compliance with Southside Bank's policies and procedures. Generate new commercial customer relationships as well as maintain existing commercial customer base. Essential Functions:
- Work independently to identify and develop profitable new client relationships by leveraging centers of influence, existing client's relationships, & referral sources
- Increase the Bank's profitability by cultivating new and deepening existing business relationships.
- Work closely with internal partners to deliver the entire bank to our clients, prospects, and communities.
- Acquire and deepen deposit relationships, and effectively cross sell treasury products.
- Negotiate proper loan structures, selling the Bank's credit and non-credit products.
- Manage, plan and complete periodic review of existing loan arrangements, to verify suitability and risk tolerance is unchanged.
- Review and decision client deposit and payment activity.
- Accept special projects in support of the team and community involvement.
- Maintain knowledge of banking, credit and non-credit products, real estate, treasury management and other bank functions.
- Maintain knowledge of accounting and financial principles, marketing and sales principles, credit analysis, economics, and other bank functions
- Professional representation of the bank in public, social and civic gatherings.
- Remain current on regulations, analysis and current trends in banking through continuing education classes/seminars.
- Attend and participate in weekly meetings ie: Team Meetings / Director's Loan Committee meetings and/or monthly Asset/Liability Committee meetings when requested.
Additional Functions:
- Supervise support staff in both their work assignments and performance development (performance appraisals).
- Consistent engagement in the community to identify and originate personal mortgages (if licensed and trained) at the branch level.
- As responsible, interview residential mortgage loan applicants and request information to complete a thorough loan application.
- Comply with all safety policies, practices, and procedures. Report all unsafe activities to supervisor and/or Human Resources.
- Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.
- Provide leadership to others through example and sharing of knowledge.
- Attend various meetings outside of the Bank (i.e. board meetings, etc.)
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Education/Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in finance, business, or another applicable field is preferred.
- Minimum of three to five years of direct lending or credit analyst related experience with a focus on commercial/business relationships.
- Extensive knowledge of the Commercial Banking industry products and services offered.
- Adequately trained and working knowledge of credit and underwriting experience.
- Sales experience and familiar with loan processing and closing procedures.
- Postgraduate banking certificate/training, preferred.

- Vast ability to build and enhance customer relationships in efforts to expand loans and identify other bank products/services suitable for those customers.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and business relationship skills.
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations. Ability to write information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
- Ability to define problems; collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
- Proficient personal computer skills including electronic mail, record-keeping, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, etc.
- Handle multiple projects simultaneously.
- Prioritize, organize and delegate assignments.
Physical Activity/Dexterity:
- Manual dexterity sufficient to reach/handle items and work with fingers. Works with fingers and perceives attributes of objects and materials.
Physical Environment Demands:
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position 90% of the time.
- The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to visit other offices, conference rooms, office machinery, etc.
- Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and telephone.
- Constantly positions self to operate on a computer.
- The person in this position frequently communicates with other people throughout each day. Must be able to exchange accurate information when conversing.
Working Conditions/Environment:
- Well-lighted, heated and/or air-conditioned indoor office setting with adequate ventilation.
- Moderate noise (e.g. business office with computers and printers, light traffic).
Work Schedule/Hours:
- Monday through Friday; 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
- Available for overtime as needed.
