Sentara is currently hiring a Patient Care Technician to work at Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital on the Inpatient Rehab Unit.

Hours/Shift:

Part-time, Rotating shifts. 7am to 7pm and 7pm to 7am

Department/Position Overview:

Inpatient Rehab (IPR) is a 8 bed unit specializing in providing patients with additional rehabilitation needs for 2-3 weeks when they are not independent enough to go home but do not require a skilled nursing facility. We work closely with the physical therapy, occupational therapy, & speech therapy teams while providing care to these patients. We become familiar with our patients and their routines over this longer stay. We enjoy watching our patients progress to going home and that is rewarding as a patient care technician. The patient population includes but is not limited to stroke, spinal cord injury, patients that required amputation or other orthopedic patients that require more therapy after being medically cleared from the hospital.

As aPatient Care Technicianwith Sentara, you will have the opportunity to learn many new skills. From taking vitals to blood draws and daily care. The primary duties of this position include supporting the admission/discharge process, changing, bathing ambulating patients, drawing blood, foley catheter care, meeting patient needs while working under the direct supervision of a nurse. You will find that teamwork is exceptional, with everyone working together to provide the best care for our patients.

Minimum Requirements:

  • One year of prior health care experience preferred.
  • American Health Associate BLS Certification required within 90 days of hire.
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and one of the following
    • Sentara Care Partner Certification Program, or
    • Successful completion of the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), or
    • National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA), or
    • National Patient Care Technician (NCPCT), or
    • Completion of US Navy Hospital Corps School, or
    • Emergency Services to include EMR, EMS, EMT, AEMT and Paramedic, or
    • Current student enrolled in a clinical program (beyond prerequisites) having completed at least one semester of RN, LPN, RT or PT, or
    • Current work experience within last three years as a PCT or Nursing Assistant.

Job Summary

Patient Care Technicians are unlicensed staff members who are accountable to, and work under the direct supervision of a professional nurse to implement delegated aspects of nursing care. Provide patient care, support the admissions and discharge process, and comply with patient safety practices under the direction of the professional nurse. Observe patients' physical, mental, and emotional conditions and report any change to the nursing.

For those acting as Safety Partners, de-escalation and physical intervention training within 30 days of hire, except for those in Behavioral Health within 15 days of hire.

One of the following programs is acceptable for education: Sentara Care Partner Certification Program, successful completion of the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA), National Patient Care Technician (NCPCT), completion of US Navy Hospital Corps School, Emergency Services to include EMR, EMS, EMT, AEMT and Paramedic, or current student enrolled in a clinical program having completed at least one semester of a (RN, LPN, RT or PT) or current work experience within last three years as a PCT or Nursing Assistant.

One year of health care experience preferred. AHA BLS certification within 90 days of hire.

Qualifications:

HS - High School Grad or Equivalent (Required) Basic Life Support (BLS) - Certification - American Heart Association (AHA) RQI, Certified Patient Care Technician/Assistant (CPCT/A) - Certification - National Healthcareer Association (NHA)
