Description

Participate as a full-time physician extender in the Division of Hematology/Oncology and in departmental and medical school activities.


Examples of Duties

Service

  • Assist in the delivery of medical services to patients seen in the hospital(s) and clinic, seen for consultation or scheduled for procedures under general medical direction of full-time faculty physician(s). Serve at outreach clinic sites throughout the central Illinois area.
  • Manage individual patient care including:
    • Perform health status assessment by obtaining medical history and performing physical examination
    • Order and interpret diagnostic studies.
    • Develop and implement treatment plan
    • Perform other diagnostic, therapeutic or corrective measures such as
      i. Bone Marrow Biopsies
      ii. Intra ommaya and lntrathecal Chemotherapy
    • Perform urgent visits for patients in need of pre-chemotherapy evaluations.
    • Provide care to routine stable and hormone therapy cancer patients.
    • Provide discharge planning for hospital patients.
    • Assist in the evaluation of patients for research trials.
  • Follow-up patients after procedure.
  • Provide patient education and counseling to patients and their families.
  • Communicate with the physicians, providing a summary of the clinical data and discussing further evaluation and therapy patients as needed.
  • Communicate with referring physicians regarding patient care issues after consultations and procedures.
  • Maintain complete and accurate records of all care provided.
  • Submit billing information in a timely and accurate manner
  • Assist in quality assurance audits and responses.

Qualifications

  • Sensitive to the needs of underrepresented minority populations.
  • Graduation from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
  • Current national nurse practitioner certification that includes completion of an examination recognized by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation.
  • Current Illinois Advanced Practice Nurse license.
