Based in Iowa, we sell more than 800 brands of electrical, automation and mechanical products to contractor, industrial and commercial customers nationwide, as well as internationally. Van Meter was founded in 1928 and today operates 14 locations in the Midwestern states of Iowa and Nebraska. Our 500+ employee-owners are empowered to go above and beyond every day to help our customers be more productive and profitable.

At Van Meter, our business is more than just products. We customize solutions and provide time-saving services to help customers be safer and more productive on the jobsite. This is especially valuable as our country faces a skilled labor shortage. Examples include project management, product staging, training, onsite inventory management, deployment of staff to jobsites, technical expertise, kitting, wire cutting, drive thru service, electronic ordering, logistics, assessments, and more. We have a dedicated continuous improvement team and ask ourselves every day how we can do better.
Van Meter continually invests in facilities and technologies to improve our operations and the overall experience we deliver to our employee-owners and customers. In recent years we’ve built new facilities in Sioux City, Iowa City, Carroll, Urbandale, and Muscatine. We completed a 65,000 square-foot expansion of our Urbandale location in 2017 and are nearing completion of a Central Distribution Center expansion and modernization project in Cedar Rapids. Energy savings and environmental stewardship matter at Van Meter. Four of our 15 locations are LEED-certified and six of them are powered by solar energy.
